Hello Fritz and Friends,

I can’t believe how much I miss you all.  It’s been such a rough few weeks without you. I go through moments of sadness and then I’m so very angry and then I’m back to sadness.

Today we have new air test results... They are not good, we are still above take action numbers. Oakland county health department has lifted the mandatory shut down for F&F’S  but it has issued a voluntary shut down. It is still not safe in our studio and I refuse to put anyone one of you in harms way.

I was still hoping against hope that somehow we could find a way to be back for  spring session even if it was a short one, that is no longer an option.

So what now? We move forward.... We are exploring all options at this time.  I pray that we can figure this mess out.

Please keep a eye out here for updates and know that you all are loved and missed.

Dearest Students,

It is with a broken heart that I must announce that Fritz and Friends will be closing its doors in Franklin, MI.  Fritz has been in business since 1988, providing a place to learn, work and collaborate with fellow metalsmiths. We are currently looking into our options to keep the spirit of Fritz and Friends alive, possibly in a new location.

As most of you know, we have been working with Michigan Department of Environmental Quality to conduct air quality tests in our studio. Unfortunately, the tests have shown a vapor intrusion involving the chemicals Trichloroethylene (TCE) and Tetrachloroethylene (PCE). These chemicals were left behind by the previous gas station and dry cleaner. Immediately after finding out, Fritz and Friends voluntarily closed until further testing could be done. As the tests continued, a tank of unknown chemicals was found under the building and is being investigated further. As a result, the entire building is closed until further notice.

Our students’ health is our number one priority which is why we have decided to close our studio doors at this location. We will be issuing refunds for the remainder of this session, and will issue full refunds for spring session.

I have discussed our situation with founder Becky Fritz and former partner Chris Krause. While they are as saddened as I am, they support the decision to close. I have greatly enjoyed my time at Fritz, first as a student, then owner and your teacher. I’ve poured my heart and soul into this business. I hope you’ve enjoyed your time as a valued student and friend, because I’ve enjoyed and loved you all!

Many wonderful teachers have walked though our doors and have become part of our family.
I would like to thank them:
Alissa Lamarre
Aaron Decker
Holly Strawbridge
Susan Hoge
Amy Weiks
Rachel Kedinger
Adam Whitney
Christine Leader
Natalie La Bruzzy

Wow, writing this, I can’t believe the rock star teachers we have had in our studio! They have given us their knowledge and their friendship. They have made us better smiths and they and you have made me a better person.

Fritz and Friends has and will always hold a special place in my heart as I know it has in yours.
Please keep an eye on our website and Facebook page for updates on what’s next for Fritz and Friends. We’ll also plan a few social events (with wine of course) so that we can all keep in touch as the studio transitions.

I appreciate your understanding in this very difficult situation. I will be contacting each of you in the coming weeks. If you should have any questions in the meantime, please feel free to reach out.

All my love Fritz and Friends,
